One of the roles of People’s Voice Media is to get people involved in the social media revolution. Everyone has something to say – about where they live, what they’re experiencing, and what they want to see happen. Our Community Reporters’ programme gives people a platform to tell these stories online.
We work with individuals from all kinds of communities to give them a voice and build their confidence in the use of social media tools.
Reporters learn how to produce content with new social media such as blogs, podcasts, films and wikis, and use everything from mobile phones to video cameras and webcams. Stories are distributed through our online networks, meaning that those voices can be heard by anyone online. It doesn’t really matter what you talk or write about (within reason! See our editorial policy) – it doesn’t have to be ‘news’, as such, it can just be something you want people to know about.
All of our Community Reporter’s content is streamed through our websites. We have 13 community websites covering Greater Manchester, which are currently receiving about 30,000 visitors a month.
Being a Community Reporter means that you’ll get access to free training and media equipment, such as video cameras and laptops, which you can then use to produce even more content, in even more imaginative ways! You’ll also get free access to events all over the city – see our Community Reviewer’s Blog. All we ask from you in return is that you produce something that we can link to on the site.
If you’re already doing something- perhaps you write a blog – you can become a Community Reporter without doing anything more than what you’re doing at the moment. If you’re based in Greater Manchester, or doing things in Greater Manchester, and have a blog or a website, why not link it up to our sites via an RSS feed? You’ll get thousands more people reading about the things that matter to you.
If you’re new to all this stuff, but want to get involved, we can offer you training, starting with the basics of using a computer, to how to make and edit your own films.
